A crash in Reno County has claimed the life of a Mount Hope teenager. Reno County SHeriff Randy Henderson says 19 year-old Braden Gates was killed in the crash along Maple Grove Road and Worthington. The teen’s truck lost control and flipped at least twice, coming to rest in the front yard of a property. Gates’s body was found a considerable distance away from the truck’s final resting place.

A Kansas judge has ruled that a Topeka man who donated sperm so two women could have a baby together isn’t legally the child’s father and doesn’t have to provide financial support. The state Department for Children and Families had not decided as of Tuesday whether it would appeal last week’s ruling. An attorney for the donor called the state’s position “radical.”
Authorities say a Texas woman accused of killing a Kansas mother and kidnapping her newborn daughter is refusing to waive extradition. The Sedgwick County district attorney’s office has begun the process to obtain a governor’s warrant for Yesenia Sesmas to bring her back to Kansas.
Residential customers of Kansas Gas Service will pay an additional $1.25 a month under a settlement agreement approved by state utility regulators. The Kansas Corporation Commission on Tuesday approved the deal that increases Kansas Gas Service’s revenue by $15.5 million. That includes the $7.4 million Gas System Reliability Surcharge, which is currently being recovered from customers as a separate line item. Kansas Gas Service had proposed a $4.54 monthly increase.
If you have travel plans in east Wichita this weekend, you’ll need to listen up. Beginning at 10pm Friday, all of Kellogg will be closed between Rock Road and Webb Road as crews begin to tear down a bridge connecting Kellogg to the Kansas Turnpike. Both directions of Kellogg will close starting Friday night at 10pm. Crews are hoping the highway will be back open in time for rush hour Monday morning.
A Wichita teenager was robbed Saturday night, according to police reports. The 16 year-old boy was slightly injured when he was attacked near Rolling Hills Drive and Wood Avenue late Saturday. He reported that four black men pulled up in a car, assaulted him, and stole his wallet. The man described the car as a 4-door Chevy Impala.
A tragedy in southwest Sedgwick County as the holiday weekend came to a close. Deputies say a 78 year-old man was killed when he collided with an SUV at 135th Street West and Macarthur Sunday. The elderly man was thrown out of his vehicle. Two people inside the SUV were not seriously injured. The name of the victim has not been released.
Kansans who will cast presidential Electoral College votes have been getting scores of emails ahead of the Dec. 19 vote. Kansas Republican Party Chairman Kelly Arnold and outgoing State Rep. Mark Kahrs have each received more than 25,000 emails. The Hutchinson News reports that Clayton Barker, Kansas Republican Party Executive Director, says however, that the party only selects electors who are reliable to vote for the winner of the state’s popular vote.
Wichita Police are investigating the discovery of a crashed car along I-135 in which a woman’s body was found inside. It’s believed the woman crashed sometime overnight late Wednesday, but her car wasn’t discovered until almost 1pm Thanksgiving Day. Someone who spotted the vehicle called 911. The victim is identified as 28 year-old Diana Olave. No foul play is suspected.
Police say a 15-year-old boy has died after he was shot outside a Wichita laundromat. A 13-year-old boy told police he and the 15-year-old were in the parking lot of Lost Sock Wednesday when three men approached them. A release Wichita Officer Charley Davidson sent Thursday says the 13-year-old says one of the men shot the 15-year-old with a handgun.
