There’s been some speculation about a new tool being used by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department during high speed chases. Last week, a Starchase Dart was deployed during a chase that ended in a shooting death south of Mulvane. Sheriff Jeff Easter says the department purchased the darts last year. A deputy is able to get close to the fleeing vehicle and shoot the dart onto it. Then chasing officers can back off and use a GPS tool to follow the fleeing car. Sedgwick County now has two of the devices, which each cost about 5-thousand dollars.
