KDOC Lied To Reporters About Prison Riot

The Kansas City Star is reporting today that El Dorado prison officials significantly downplayed a riot that broke out at the facility a couple weeks ago, and even outright lied to news reporters about what was going on. The incident started at about 9am, according to Robert Choromanski, the head of the union the represents KDOC employees. It did not end until after 5pm on June 29th. A statement from KDOC said that no violence had occured and no weapons were accessed by inmates., However, an emergency log book from the incident does show that there was lots of violence throughout the day and at least one inmate had a weapon. Moreover, one fire broke out at the prison during the incident, according to the log book. KDOC Spokesman Todd Fertig has not responded to requests for comment about this story.
