Officer Arterburn Returns Home To Continue Recovery

A Wichita Police Officer who was critically injured while on duty – has finally returned home. Officer Brian Arterburn was run over by a car driven by a man who was fleeing a search warrant in South Wichita. Arterburn was trying to stop the suspect by laying down spike strips in the roadway when he was struck. Since February, Arterburn has gone through numerous therapy programs at several different hospitals across the country. Yesterday, Arterburn’s plane landed at Mid-Continent Airport to bring him home. There will also be a welcome home celebration for Officer Arterburn this Saturday at Harvest Community Church, located at 8340 West 21st Street from 1-3pm.

Cowley County Inmate Dies In Cell

AN investigation is ongoing at the Cowley County Jail, where the sheriff says an inmate was found unresponsive last night. The inmate is identified as 33 year-old Jesse Crable, of Winfield. Crable was pronounced dead at the jail. The sheriff says an autopsy is scheduled for today to help prpvide details as to why Crable suddenly collapsed in his cell.

Ranzau Lashes Out At O’Donnell During Commissioners Meeting

More fireworks at the Sedgwick County Commissioners meeting. A couple weeks ago, Commissioner Richard Ranzau called out Commissioner Michael O’Donnell, accusing him of misusing his position as an elected official to benefit himself. Yesterday, the commission was voting on whether or not to fund a county health surveyor position in next year’s budget. O’Donnell had previously said he would not approve the position, but instead switched his vote yesterday and DID approve the position. Two other commissioners also voted yes. But Ranzau, who made the motion to remove the position, accused O’Donnell of only switching his vote because he was mad at Ranzau for last week’s accusations. Ranzau said “It is inappropriate to use his position and to lie to the public and someone needs to stand up to him.”

Textron Inks Big Deal With FedEx

It sounds like some new aviation work will come to Wichita, as Textron announces a big deal with FedEx. In a statement issued yesterday, Textron says it will eventually hire more workers in order to build a new cargoi plane called the SkyCourier 408. The airplane will be entirely built in Wichita. The deal was inked between FedEx and Textron on Monday. The first order is for 50 airplanes with options for another 50 after that. The SkyCourier 408 will be a twin engine prop plane that will carry twice the volume of the Cessana Caravan, which FedEx currently operates 240 of.

Potential Sale Of Greyhound Park Land

Sedgwick County Commissioners are talking once again about the dilapdated land in Park CIty that used to be Phil Ruffin’s Wichita Greyhound Park. Today, the commissioners will vote on whether or not to move forward with selling the land. Ruffin still owns the park and still says he pays the county $70,000 each year to lease the land. Ruffin says he will bid on the land if there were to be an auction. He closed the greyhound park about ten years ago when Sedgwick County voters rejected a slot machine vote.

Shooting Near Central & I-235 Overnight

There’s been a shooting overnight in West Wichita. Police have been on the scene in the 5000 block of West Newell, just east of Central and I-235. One person was taken from the scene in an ambulance. That person was said to be in critical condition. There is no word on any suspect information.

Donald Trump Jr. Stumps For Kris Kobach In KS

Donald Trump Jr. says his father’s successful run for president has given conservatives the ability to feel free to speak up on issues. Trump appeared Tuesday evening at a fundraiser for Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s campaign for governor at a suburban Kansas City hotel.

Boyfriend Arrested In Connection With Woman’s Death In Riverside

Meanwhile, an arrest has been made in connection with the death of 25 year-old Bryena McQuitty Sunday. McQuitty’s body was found Sunday at a home in Riverside, in the 800 block of North Litchfield. Police have arrested 33 year-old Aaron Suiter, who they say was McQuitty’s boyfriend. Suiter is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second degree murder.

Mother And Son Found Shot Inside Home Are Identified

The mother and son who were found shot to death in East Wichita have been identified. Wichita Polcie say their bodies were found late Saturday night in the 7500 block of East Huntington, inside their home. A woman came home and called 911 to report that she found her mother and her brother dead. 62 year-old Houng Pham and 23 year-old Cody Ha had both been shot. Cotton Bales Catch Fire Near Anthony

Hundreds of bales of cotton continue to burn in Harper County. Firefighters say more than 1.5 million pounds of cotton caught fire in a field near a cotton gin near Anthony. A spokesperson with Anthony Fire says about 300 bales are burning, each weighing about 5,000 pounds. The General Manager of the Southern Kansas Cotton Grower’s Association, Gary Feist, says he believes a stick or a rock likely got caught in the cotton stripper, causing friction that sparked a flame. He says the fire likely smopldered for days before finally erupting. The total worth of the cotton is said to be at least $200,000.
