KS Widow Sues Barber County Sheriff Over Husband’s Killing

A Kansas woman is now taking her fight with the Barber County Sheriff to federal court. Kristina Myers filed a federal lawsuit Thursday, alleging that sheriff’s deputies shot and killed her husband in Sun City while he was standing with bare hands at his sides. The lawsuit claims Steven Myers was not being threatening. Undersheriff Virgil Brewer fired what’s considered a less-than-lethal bean bag round at Myers while at close range. Dashcam video of the incident is being used as evidence. In the video, you can hear Sheriff Lonnie Small saying “Shot him with a bean bag round. Hadn’t shot anybody with it yet.” No word yet on when an initial federal court hearing in Wichita will take place.
