One Man Killed In Butler County Motorcycle Crash

We begin in Butler COunty this morning, where there’s been a deadly motorcycle crash. Sheriff Kelly Herzet coinfirms it happened at about 8pm last night on K-254 near Ohio Street, to the east of Towanda. We know that two vehicles were involved, a car and a motorcycle, but the driver of the car was not injured. No names have been released.

Man Sentenced For Shooting Pratt Gas Station Clerk

A man suspected of killing or wounding people in Mississippi, New Mexico and Kansas has been sentenced in Kansas. Alex Deaton was sentenced Monday to nearly 13 years in prison and $4,000 in restitution for shooting a Pratt convenience store clerk in March. Deaton pleaded guilty in July to attempted first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Pratt County District Attorney Tracey Beverlin says she doesn’t know when Deaton will go to Mississippi to face charges there.

Kobach Gets Help From Trump Jr.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s run for the Republican nomination for Kansas governor is getting help from the son of President Donald Trump. Kobach announced Monday that Donald Trump Jr. will in Kansas in November for a fundraiser. Kobach is among 18 candidates who have said they are running for governor in 2018.

Newton Man Shot During Car Theft Confrontation

A shooting investigation is going on right now in Newton, where shots were fired last night int he 400 block of Normandy Road. Newton Police say a homeowner reported someone trying to steal a car on his property. That homeowner rewportedly confronted the thief. During that confrontation, the suspect pulled a gun and shot the resident more than once. The man is reporteldy in good condition now, but the suspect remains on the loose. Last night, police urged everyone in the area to lock their doors. If you know anything, call police.

Body of Missing Rose Hill Woman Found Along KS/OK border

A sad update to the missing woman case we’ve been reporting for the last few days. Authorities say the body of a missing elderly woman from Rose Hill has been found. Dixie Adair was found near the Kansas/Oklahoma border about 200 feet away from her car. Sumner County Sheriff Darren Chambers says Adair’s cousin was flying a plane in a search effort when he made the discovery in the area near Meridian and East 200th Road along the state line. Adair’s ID, car keys and other personal belongings were found in her car. Chambers says it appears Adair left her vehicle when she got stuck on a gravel road. Am autopsy is planned for today.

Brownback Policy Director Resigns

Gov. Sam Brownback’s policy director is leaving the administration next week. Brownback announced Brandon Smith’s departure Thursday. Smith has worked for the Brownback administration for nearly three years. Brownback’s office said Smith will take a job in Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin’s administration.

Wichita Woman Charged With International Parental Kidnapping

A woman accused of fleeing Kansas and taking her children to Russia amid a divorce has been charged with international parental kidnapping. Federal prosecutors say a grand jury on indicted the 37-year-old Russian woman on Wednesday. She was arrested last month in Wichita, but investigators believe her three children are still in Russia. Prosecutors say she allowed her ex-husband to communicate with the children, but he wasn’t allowed to see them when he flew to meet her in 2015.

Search Continues For Missing Rose Hill Woman

The search continues for a missing elderly Rose Hill woman. Dixie Adair was last seen Monday at the Kansas Star Casino. She never made it home. Witnesses said the 86 year-old Adair appearaed disoriented as she left the casino. She is a white female, 5′ 4″ tall, weighing 180 pounds. She had blue eyes and blonde hair. She may be driving a Toyota Camry with a Kansas handicapped tag of 88398.

Police Looking For Owner Of Urn Found In Donated Dresser

The Wichita Police Departrment is hoping to reunite someone with an urn full of cremated remains that was found in a donated dresser drawer. On Monday, the Goodwill store in the 1600 block of South Rock Road cointac6ted police, saying ther dresser was dropped off on September 28th. Bob Dole Returns Home After Hospital Stay

Former Republican presidential candidate and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole has returned home after being hospitalized for three weeks with low blood pressure. Dole spokeswoman Marion Watkins said in an email Tuesday that the 94-year-old former Kansas senator was discharged Thursday from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside Washington, D.C. He was hospitalized Sept. 13. Dole tweeted last week that he’s “happy to be home.”
